Broker Maintenance.

I was trading the other day, and my broker stopped trading for maintenance. This is very inconvenient! Do you also find that your broker halts trading while you are in a trade? Is EFX (mtb) the only broker that does this? Are all brokers like that?

Quite a few brokers have this. Search google, you'll see that EFX has a regula maintenance down-time. Maintenance is fairly quick, so shouldn't be too much trouble. It is best to close your trades in advance of the maintenance time, unless you really want to hold over...

I've had brokers go off-line several times in my career. Power outages, data/phone line damage, fire/flood/storm etc.

A word of advice... Have a spare account at a different broker, in a different location (geographically separate). You need this account to take an offsetting position, if you cant do so with your regular broker.

So if you want to exit a trade at your primary broker, but can't reach them, enter a trade at your backup broker to take the opposite position. Then you will be long at one broker, short at the other. Later you can exit both positions to be settled again.
